This meeting will deal with optical properties of conjugated polymers, photonic crystals (dielectric & metallic), MX chains, and superstructures. The format will include both oral and poster presentations with no parallel oral sessions. Sessions will be scheduled in the mornings and evenings of 16-19 February. In order to accommodate time for half-day and ski and snowboard packages, no sessions will be scheduled in the afternoons. The conference is sponsored by the Department of Energy and the Department of Physics t the University of Utah.

Scope

The scope of the conference include optical effects in doped and undoped conjugated polymers, photonic crystals, MX chains, conjugated architectures and superstructures. Major areas to be emphasized include:

Optical probes of excited states
Optics of photonic crystals
Physics of LED, FET and other electronic devices
Laser action in films, microcavities and infiltrated opals
Modeling of photonic crystals
Charge transfer processes
Photoconductivity and other electron transport processes
Ultrafast spectroscopy
Nonlinear optics
Studies of photoexcitations
Theory of electronic states
Photovoltaic devices and solar cells
Raman scattering and other phonon spectroscopies
Optically detected structure modifications
Metallic photonic crystals
Superstructures
